Cal Adventures, UC Berkeley's Experiential and Outdoor Education Program, in coordination with Project Lead It, is proud to offer a semester long course. This course provides practical information and hands-on opportunity for Cal students to study and gain experience working in professional experiential education and recreation programs.
Our goals are to teach and practice the skills of leadership and teaching and to apply those skills to leading individuals and groups through educational and interactive endeavours.
Students will end the semester with practical experience and a solid foundation in the skills of leadership and teaching using experiential methods.
Upon completion of the semester students will be encouraged to apply for volunteer or paid positions in their area of focus.
This ED 97/197 Field Studies Section includes:
One 2.5 hour classroom session per week during which we will present and practice material designed to help with the development of leaders and experiential instructors/guides.
Field work related to a chosen area of focus or path. Field work entails learning the basic skills of an area of focus followed by a shadowing during which students assist in the implementation of programs offered to the public.
All topics will be presented in a participatory fashion with hands on exercises and do not necessarily focus on the "Wilderness Experience."
Class size is limited to 30 students doing field work. Students will be accepted through week 3.
